What was your inspiration for Kissing in America?

I take a lot of road trips and I wanted to write a book about one. My parents died and afterwards I took a ton of road trips to sort of fell better and heal and it really helped me, more so than I expected. So I wanted to write a book about that with that sort of theme in mind.

How do you come up with characters?

I save old phone books and I’d go through them sometimes just to look through them and find first names and last names and I also use dictionaries sometimes, just flipping through them looking for cool names.

Why did you decide to write a romance novel?

I have always loved romance novels and reading and writing about romances. I just really enjoy classic romance books and thought that these characters would work really well in one.

What was your favorite part of writing the book?

I think that writing the part in Texas was my favorite because I used to live here and I just really enjoy visiting Texas.

What would be your advice for aspiring young authors?

I guess just keep trying and don’t give up. It takes a long time to write a book, but don’t give up, just keep on writing and don’t stop.
