Announcing Brian Yansky Author of Homicidal Aliens & Other Disappointments

Texas is clearly a leader in the YA author goodness, and Austin author Brian Yansky is right in the mix! We are so happy to have him join us at #ATBF13! He believes in aliens and by the end of the day on Saturday, September 28th you will too!

What is your favorite picture book?
Most of the books I like that have pictures are comic books. However, my favorite picture book has to be THE BUG CEMETERY, written by Frances Hill Yansky. Has to be because she is my wife. Fortunately, for me, it is a wonderful picture book that takes on the subject of death and the cycle of life with insight, narrative skill, and wit. A picture book more for teens is Tales From Outer Suburbia by Shaun Tan. Weird and funny.

In one word describe your publication journey?
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious

E.T. or Marvin the Martian?
Marvin the Martian. They’re both charming in their own way, but Marvin has better clothes.

Have you ever been to SXSW? What would your dream SX show be?
Yes, I’ve been. Years ago. I’m not someone who has one favorite artist. I’d like to hear Timbuck 3, long defunct, do “The Future’s So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades”. I’d also bring back a couple of dead guys (you said dream SX), Stevie Ray Vaughn and Johnny Cash for a few songs and maybe finish off with another dead guy, a little Bob Marley like, “I Shot the Sheriff” (but I didn’t shoot the deputy) which I always thought a great line but inadequate defense for shooting someone.

About HOMICIDAL ALIENS AND OTHER DISAPPOINTMENTS
The reluctant hero from ALIENS INVASION AND OTHER INCONVENIENCES is back in all his droll glory — and this time the fate of humankind is on the line.

Jesse has had the worst year of his life. First a race of homicidal (but very polite) aliens invaded Earth, killing pretty much everyone and enslaving the few people left behind, including Jesse; his best friend, Michael; his sort-of girlfriend, Lauren; and the girl of his dreams, Catlin. Now Jesse is revered as some sort of Chosen One all because he managed to kill one of the alien lords and escape — even though he’s not really sure how he did it. But it’s hard to argue with the multitude of new talents he is developing, including (somehow) killing aliens with his mind and grasping glimpses of alternate futures. With thousands of aliens already on Earth and thirty million more about to arrive, Jesse has to decide whether to embrace his maybe-destiny before the world is completely destroyed. No pressure.

Mark those calendars for September 28th and mosey on down to the Austin Convention Center! Be sure to join in on the fun at Facebook and Twitter!
