Announcing Sean Beaudoin Author of Wise Young Fool

Another amazing author is heading to #ATBF13! We’ve had our eye on Sean Beaudoin when YOU KILLED WESLEY PAYNE was nominated for YALSA’s Teens’ Top 10 in 2011. We are so lucky to have him join us September 28th to celebrate the release of WISE YOUNG FOOL!

What is your favorite movie with zombies?
As far as the shambling undead, I pretty much love anything where Jennifer Aniston is a misunderstood housewife with a jerk husband, catches him cheating in the first scene, finds her own lonely apartment, is consoled by her snappy gay friend over microwave popcorn and red wine, meets a new and unexpected type dude (fireman? mechanic?), they have a few great dates but some kind of misunderstanding keeps them apart for half the movie, and then against all odds they get together at the end, kissing in subway station while crowds of people stream by to the swelling choruses of Tom Petty.

But I am also fond of the 1985 Punk/Zombie masterpiece Return of the Living Dead.

Do you know how to do the Macarena?
No, but I used to kill at macaroni painting in 5th grade art class. That’s where you glue dry elbow macaroni on construction paper in different shapes–like the Eiffel Tower or a growling tiger or Vin Diesel–and then paint it. The true measure of talent, though, is when you bring your project home a week later and then spend most of the afternoon talking your little brother into eating two thirds of it.

How many instruments can you play?
Well, I would say I play guitar, depending on the level of competence your question requires. And basic blues harmonica. And I used to play saxophone with some seriousness, but that was a long time ago. I can play the Snoopy song on the piano. So I think the answer is one.

What do you think about Dr Pepper? You do know what Dr Pepper is, right?
Sadly, I do not often think of Dr Pepper. Unless you’re talking about the killer early 90’s hair-metal band Doktah Peppah and the Polyp of The Beast, in which case I think about them a lot, since I often play their first few albums, not to mention the signed picture disc I got on eBay for slightly less than a grand.

Dr. Scholls, Dr. Phil, Dr. Drew, Dr. Octopus, and both Doctors Pepper (diet and original)…these are all physicians I do not put a great deal of stock in.

About WISE YOUNG FOOL:
Teen rocker Ritchie Sudden is pretty sure his life has just jumped the shark. Except he hates being called a teen, his band doesn’t play rock, and “jumping the shark” is yet another dumb cliché. Part of Ritchie wants to drop everything and walk away. Especially the part that’s serving ninety days in a juvenile detention center.

Telling the story of the year leading up to his arrest, Ritchie grabs readers by the throat before (politely) inviting them along for the (max-speed) ride. A battle of the bands looms. Dad split about five minutes before Mom’s girlfriend moved in. There’s the matter of trying to score with the dangerously hot Ravenna Woods while avoiding the dangerously huge Spence Proffer–not to mention just trying to forget what his sister, Beth, said the week before she died.

September 28th is just a few shorts weeks away and we’d love to hear from you on Facebook and Twitter!
