You’ve worked in comics, were part of a writers group partially funded by NASA, have just created an online anthology —@foreshadowYA— and so much more. What’s the most memorable writing experience you’ve ever had?

I spent two weeks at the @MacDowellColony, desperate, after losing a chunk of a novel in a hard-drive crash. I turned possessed and produced 43,258 words of THE WALLS AROUND US, saving myself and making my book deadline. I’ve never felt more accomplished in my life.

And since we’re talking about your time in comics, if you could write one existing comic book character into one of your own books, who would it be, and why?

I once edited a revamp of Mystique during the time I worked in the X-office at @Marvel ‏Comics. This is a character who can literally be anyone and fool us all… I’d love to explore that concept in my own books.

Our festival slogan is “Read Everything.” What one book would you like to see on our official “Read Everything” list for 2018?

A 2018 debut: THE ASTONISHING COLOR OF AFTER by Emily X.R. Pan (@exrpan). I thought it was a brilliant and beautifully rendered portrait of grief that was so aching and hopeful and imaginative, I expect I’ll be reading it again and again throughout my lifetime.
