TTBF 2016 Fiction Writing Contest

Your Texas Teen Book Festival is again looking for aspiring writers for its 2016 Fiction Writing Contest!

The contest is generously sponsored by Delacorte Press, an imprint of Random House Children’s books, and it is free to enter!

Please read all the guidelines below before submitting your entry.


Eligibility Requirements

  • The TTBF Fiction Writing Contest is open to Texas residents aged 11-18 years.
  • You must be a Texas resident to be eligible for this contest.
  • This is a fiction contest. Submissions must be works of fiction.
  • Entry is limited to one per person.
  • Only single author entries qualify (no co-authors).
  • Writing must be author’s original work and creation.

Submission Requirements

  • To qualify, each entry must be submitted along with a fully completed Entry Form.
  • The writer’s name should not appear anywhere within the document or in the document title.
  • Each entry must include the following:
    • a 300 to 500 word synopsis of your overall story
    • a 9,000 to 14,000 word excerpt from your story
  • Required Format for All Entries:
    • Double-Spaced
    • Arial or Times New Roman font
    • 12 point font size
    • 1 inch margins
    • Pages numbered
    • Acceptable file formats: .pdf, .doc, .docx, .rtf
  • Save your electronic file using the following naming conventions:
    • TitleofStory_YourInitials
      • Example: ThrownofGlass_SJM

All submissions must be received by 11:59 PM on Friday, July 1, 2016.

Winners will be notified on September 1 and will be invited to participate in the 2016 Texas Teen Book Festival on October 1, 2016 at St. Edward’s University.


Three overall winners will be selected by our contest judges.

Each of our three winners will receive a prize of $150, as well as a full editorial review by an editor from Delacorte Press, a imprint of Random House Children’s Books!

The submission deadline has passed and the contest is now closed.

However, we’ll be back next year, so go ahead and start writing!!

Winners will be announced on  September 1, 2016.
