Costume Contest

Have you ever wanted to be a demi-god at Camp Half-Blood? Or a wizard at Hogwarts? Or reveal you are a cyborg like Cinder from the Lunar Chronicles? Will you don your Grisha kefta to reveal yourself as a Heartrender? Sun Summoner? The Darkling? Are you ready to show the world you are House Baratheon or House Stark? Have you always wished you could walk through the world as your favorite literary hero… or villain? Well, here’s your chance!
TTBF and Epic Reads is hosting its second ever Costume Contest at this year’s Texas Teen Book Festival on October 7!
Once at the festival, visit our Epic Reads Photo Ops Booth dressed in your full costume, and snap a few shots in your creative gear. A few lucky winners will go home with fun literary prizes, including brand new books generously provided by Epic Reads!
All of the ins and outs about the contest are available below in our FAQs. Read up and start working on your new self! While you’re at it, we’d love to see the progress you’re making on your costume! Tag us @txteenbookfest and #TTBF, and @EpicReads!

FAQ’s

How can I cosplay my favorite character at TTBF?

Put together a creative, funny, or imaginative costume of your favorite LITERARY character and wear it.

What do you mean by literary character?

Any character that has ever appeared in a book. Period. Doesn’t matter if the TV show or movie or comic book came first. If they’ve appeared in a book you can dress up as them!

What if I want to enter the contest?

Please check in at the Epic Reads Photo Ops Tent any time throughout the morning to sign up. The judging period of the contest will take place around lunch time (check the official schedule for time TBA) and winners will be announced during the closing ceremony so that everyone can see your awesome work on display!

What if I don’t want to enter the contest?

That’s okay too! However, we are asking everyone in costume check in at the Epic Reads Photo Ops Tent. There will be a photo booth set up so you can take fun pictures in your costumes!

What about toy weapons?

Sorry, but your character will need to leave their weapon props at home.

What if I don’t know how to make a costume?

All costumes are welcomed. It doesn’t make any difference if they are homemade, found, magically appear, purchased, or rented.

What categories are the awards going to be in?

There will be five chances to win! We will be looking for:

  • Best in Show
  • First Place
  • Second Place
  • Third Place
  • Best duo/group

How will the winners be determined?

Our judges are cos-players who love books too! So it’s safe to say they will be looking at all of your costumes with the same enthusiasm that you prepare them with! So have fun, because we guarantee that will show in your work!

You didn’t answer my question and I still don’t know what to do?

That’s okay! There is more information to come and we will gladly answer any questions you have! If you any questions that are just bursting out of you, email ttbfvolunteer@gmail.com and Shannon will gladly answer any questions you have!

See you on October 7!!!
