What is one thing on your bucket list that you hope to check off this year?
Mike: I want to see FROZEN published. It’s been five years in the making, I think that qualifies for the bucket list.
Mel: I just got my blue passport (I became a US citizen this year) so one thing I’d like to do is leave the country ON A WHIM, at the LAST MINUTE. Something I was unable to do when I had green card, as you need to get visas to travel, which takes a lot of advance planning.

Are you still friends with anybody you went to high school with?
Mike: Yes. Facebook has made it impossible to hide from my high school friends.
Mel: Sadly no. I think I had ONE real friend in high school. Who I cannot track down and has not tracked me down. But it would be nice to reconnect. I had friendly acquaintances from high school who emailed me through my website when my books were published though. When I graduated from high school, I had a very “see you later suckers!” mentality. I hated it and I was very angry. Now I wish I wasn’t so insecure. This is a long rambling answer that basically says, Yes I was a loser in high school, what of it?? LOL!

If you were stuck in a casino for 24 hours straight, what game would you play most?
Mike: Roulette and I would not be stuck. I love casinos, I wrote a book about Vegas.
Mel: Yes, roulette is our game. But I think if I was there for 24 hours I would try my hand at poker, which I’ve been too scared to do in Vegas. In my mind I am a POKER ACE. I think I’m Starbuck from BSG. In reality I always lose at poker when I play with friends and family. It’s so disappointing! But I have yet to give up my fantasy.

If you had to set a book in Texas what city would you choose?
Mike: I wrote a book that took place in Austin, but its still mostly in my head and will remain there until I decide what to do with it.
Mel: I would choose Dallas or Houston. Probably Houston. I’m obsessed with big oil money glamour. And they already made a soap about Dallas. I would write a soapy book called HOUSTON. Then I would sit back and wait for HOUSTON’S the restaurant to offer me free meals for life. 🙂

ABOUT FROZEN:
Welcome to New Vegas, a city once covered in bling, now blanketed in ice. Like much of the destroyed planet, the place knows only one temperature—freezing. But some things never change. The diamond in the ice desert is still a 24-hour hedonistic playground and nothing keeps the crowds away from the casino floors, never mind the rumors about sinister sorcery in its shadows.

At the heart of this city is Natasha Kestal, a young blackjack dealer looking for a way out. Like many, she’s heard of a mythical land simply called “the Blue.” They say it’s a paradise, where the sun still shines and the waters are turquoise. More importantly, it’s a place where Nat won’t be persecuted, even if her darkest secret comes to light.

But passage to the Blue is treacherous, if not impossible, and her only shot is to bet on a ragtag crew of mercenaries led by a cocky runner named Ryan Wesson to take her there. Danger and deceit await on every corner, even as Nat and Wes find themselves inexorably drawn to each other. But can true love survive the lies? Fiery hearts collide in this fantastic tale of the evil men do and the awesome power within us all.

Keep saving those pennies and make plans for you and your friends to join us at the Austin Convention Center! See you in a few short weeks!
