Today we are happy to announce that PJ Hoover is joining the lineup for #ATBF13! She hails from right here in Austin, Texas and has a brand new book coming this summer, SOLSTICE! She is a staple in the Texas YA community and we can’t wait for you to meet her on Saturday, September 28th! Let’s meet PJ.
What is your favorite mythology?
Okay, if we’re talking Greek and Roman, I *love* the story of Cupid and Psyche. It’s just crazy and awesome and captures so many human emotions so well. There is betrayal and jealousy and love. If we’re talking bigger than that, I’ll go with flood stories in general. Mythologies from around the globe each have their own flood story, and I think it’s pretty cool to try to figure out how they all fit together and where that flood really happened.
What song encompasses SOLSTICE?
That would be DON’T FEAR THE REAPER by Blue Oyster Cult. Why? Because (1) The song is awesome; (2) Death, reapers, Underworld…they all go together; and (3) Because I saw them in concert in 1986 and they rocked the house!
How many Star Trek t-shirts do you own? Be honest!
LOL. I went to my closet to count. I’m an equal-opportunity t-shirt aficionado, so here are the counts:
Star Trek: 4
Star Wars: 5
Lord of the Rings: 4
Game of Thrones: 3
Remember Pluto: 3
Mario Kart: 2
And then of course I have a nice smattering of others including He-Man, Transformers, Wizard of Oz/Dark Side of the Moon mashup, Blade Runner, and Hunger Games.
Describe your dream pair of cowboy boots.
Well, for starters, they are black. And they have lots of stitching. But the stitching is all in earth tones so it’s kind of subdued but still amazingly awesome. And then there is this darling little buckle that goes across the front. Plus they match EVERYTHING in my closet (including all the t-shirts listed above). But the best part about the boots? They are my “book deal” books. These are what I treated myself to when I sold SOLSTICE (and my Egyptian mythology story, TUT: MY LIFE AS AN IMMORTAL 8th GRADER) to Tor Teen. Woot!
