Tillie Walden – #TTBF Author Interview – 2017

August 18, 2017 in TTBF 2017

Spinning delves into your history as a competitive ice skater. How did your experience in ice skating shape who you are today? Ice skating gave me my work ethic. I’m able to make comics as a career in part because of the skills I learned on the ice. I can hustle, I can work through rough patches, and I can really focus. While being able to do an Axel doesn’t necessarily help when it comes to learning how to do my taxes or change a flat tire, it still showed me that you can learn to do things that seem impossible with enough practice and consistency. And that’s a universal lesson, really, that can apply to all parts of my life. 2. What is the one movie you can quote the most? This is so embarrassing, but the movie I can quote the most is Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story. My family and I watched this movie a little religiously (it’s just so funny..) and now I could probably recite the whole movie to you right now. But I won’t, don’t worry. 3. TTBF’s new slogan is “Read Everything.” What book have you read that you’d like to see on our official Read Everything book list for 2017? I would recommend Afterworlds by Scott Westerfeld. I was already a huge fan of his books before reading Afterworlds but this one completely blew me away. It’s fun, it’s heartfelt, and it’s a book I would love everyone to pick up and read.
